Why did we grow up?

"Do you remember those good old days during pre school?" ,
He asked me as he watched his daughter laugh on the swings at the park. " Yes", I said, "I remember it as if it were just yesterday"
That's when I began to wonder, wonder why we even grew up. Why couldn't we just stay those silly little girls chasing after each other during recess instead of chasing each others' positions at the company?
Why couldn't we fall, scrape our knees, shed few tears, laugh and get back up again and run instead of rushing to the ER for a tetanus shot everytime we get a paper cut?
Why couldn't we just go back home to our mothers or grandmothers and unwillingly drink a glass of milk instead of getting back home to our kids who share more laughters with the nanny than us?
Why couldn't we stay innocent and question why the sky is blue instead of never getting time to look at the sky?

Reading my mind and noticing the face I make when I ponder over nonsense , he said  "I'm glad we are grown up. I'm glad that I am a dad. I'm glad I have a lovely daughter. I'm glad I have my own business. I no longer have to depend on anyone."
"I'm glad that an innocent child has grown into a strong man with dreams yet to be fulfilled in the years to come. I can't wait to grow older. I'm glad I grew up to realise that life is only what you make of it. You like it, you live it. You don't like it, you only survive."
I smiled, held his hand and said, " I'm glad I grew up with you by my side through all these years. You just brought out a whole new perspective of growing up and I can't wait to grow older with you."
